Once upon a time I signed up to a health service – it was pivotal in my recovery; a service called the Early Intervention team. It was special because it was a important moment in my life – a place where I could rest and recover and a place I would be able to explore different activities such as sports through the start again project and social groups that played pool and other activities.
One aspect that made it so special to me though was the ability for me to make friends that were going through the same struggle. I became friends with 2 people, and we regularly meet up and socialised and got to know each other of which we’re still in touch today. It shows that although life is hard, there will people that know the struggle who you can walk beside – side by side and you don’t have to face it alone.
It’s one of those things that lasts a few years – 3 years and then you’re back. I remember one of my best friends during the time – Jai. He was a funny and good person, always talking about breaking bad and the consciousness of the universe (his version of spirituality) and I was convinced that everyone in the service loved him – including me.
I was back and forth to university, but after this I managed to explore the different groups and got to know Chantelle who was increasingly impressed by my tennis skills and journey. She was happy I found a sport that I enjoyed very much and in return I was happy she managed to discover football – something which she also was truly passionate about.
These days: however, I’m in a much better place and don’t need their support. However, like all things and events that come and go, this is a stepping stone, in my opinion, in the right place.
