The story takes place at the park. Two characters – Fletcher and Cameron – converse at a park bench while a third, unbeknownst to them watches.
The weather was glorious, and the sun shone overhead. The rays of sunshine penetrated the atmosphere as the characters sat there. It was a warm summer’s day, and the place had a slight drift as the wind settled calmly.
The person watching the two characters conversing was wearing a grey jacket and a black top hot. He was very slim yet had an athletic build. He also was leering at them and inspecting every movement, every facial feature of these two people.
Fletcher had a flashback where he saw his mum cooking him a nice dinner and his brothers playing at the dinner table with their food. He suddenly remembered his dad moving into the room stinking of alcohol and proceeding to hit him. With his fists. His Mum would always proceed to shout at Dad and threaten to leave him.
Cameron was big and athletic; he looked like a rugby player. He had on a red and white striped T-shirt that was muscle-fit. He also was wearing cropped jeans and Adidas trainers. His hair was neatly groomed and was wearing designer sunglasses.
The park was quiet with the birds tweeting and the wind rustling the leaves by the side of the road. Various sounds were made of people kicking the football in the park and the children playing the swings and roundabouts; the frogs belching in the pond near the park.
Cameron said: “How are you, Fletcher?” Fletcher sighed and replied: “I’m not sure; I am ok yet unsure how to make my family situation better, I hope my dad and Mum can get along better but yet I don’t like my dad at all”. Cameron said: “sorry to hear, hope that your family conflict can be sorted out soon”.
In the distance between Cameron and Fletcher were the sound of drilling drills and a tractor going back and forth across the land. The park was trying to build a new shop of sorts around the area, so there was construction to build this area.
The park was clean but still had some litter lying around it. Around the bin was litter such as Mars bars packets and crisp packets. Empty shopping bags now and again was littered around the park. It was clear that the park was quite clean but still had some litter defacing the park.
Cameron had a flashback he was there with his friend, and he was discussing something. Cameron said, “what should we do about this body?” The other person said: “let us bury it deep into the ground or burn it”. They went back and forth for a while discussing what to do. Cameron wishes he could forget this memory.
Fletcher was slim and would be considered skinny on most accounts. He wore a Lacoste T-shirt and denim shorts both were skinny fit. He also had wavy curly hair, which was blonde and blue eyes as well, it was clear he didn’t work out and also that he didn’t eat that much.
Fletcher said: “hang on a minute, why are you so late?” He looked very cross and emotional about this, but Cameron said: “I’m sorry I was late, but I was babysitting my nephew”. Fletcher replied: “you’re always making excuses! Hope you’re more on time in the future”.
The person watching Fletcher and Cameron sighed as he noticed what they were talking about, he shrugged his head and continued to people-watch in the park. He was diligent in his watching, continuously looking at the pair for any signs of difference or similarities.
Fletcher noticed a squirrel rapidly eating a hazelnut. “Hey, look!” said fletcher. Cameron replied, “Aw, how cute!” They both looked at the squirrel with admiration and noticed how cute the animal looked chomping away at the nut.
A person was riding a skateboard down the footpath when suddenly the skateboard flipped up and whacked the person in the face. He toppled down and fell over. He was in a right state but then appeared to get back up mostly unharmed.
Cameron was thinking about his friendship with Fletcher. Was it real or fake? He wondered what to think, as he wanted to get money off Fletcher and that’s all that he wanted, as well as that he was using Fletcher to get into the popular crowd since Fletcher knew some people in this group.
Fletcher approached Cameron at a rapid pace due to being late, he didn’t know what to do or how to make it up to Cameron but he knew what he did was wrong. He was hoping that Cameron would forgive him.
