Hello all! I wanted to share a bit about my story of being a Christian. I first decided to become a Christian when I was 21 in 2013 at university because I was going through a hard time and was wondering more about the meaning of life and what happens after we die.
I was brought up in a Christian home meaning that both my parents were believers. Due to the fact, however, that was a lot of suffering in the world I couldn’t believe in a God. It wasn’t until God opened my eyes when I sought after God seriously that he revealed himself to me.
The bible verse that comes to mind is Jeremiah 29:13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord… I found this true; he will be found when we seek God with all our hearts.
Overall being a Christian has made a huge impact on my life. There’s a need more to please God than to please people, meaning that no matter how things go in my life, the only approval I need to seek is from God and God alone; nobody else needs my approval, which is very helpful to know.
I also started having regular quiet time which has been more and more consistent and has become more of a daily habit. Now I do my quiet time every day and have read through the entire bible 4 times which is very good.
I’ve also discovered a community of people at my local church to connect with and become friends with through the church service where I get to talk to the others after the service and also through my mid-week life group on Thursdays where we get to read the bible and pray together.
Overall, I feel less alone and that there is always someone there to talk to and that understands me which is important. And I know that my past can be forgiven, a purpose for living and a home in heaven (quote from Rick Warren).
I feel that we are also to share our faith with others; this is important because when we learn about Jesus, we cannot help but want to share our faith with others! Often this step is neglected as we forget how much Jesus can offer the world at times and that he indeed is the answer that everyone needs.
Some of my favourite verses from the Bible include:
Romans 8:28
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
This verse is important to me because no matter what we go through we can know if we love God, we can know that he will turn anything that looks bad into good. Even the worst mistakes can become something good in God’s eyes.
Jeremiah 29:11
New International Version
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
This verse is a good reminder that no matter what God has a plan and purpose for our lives that doesn’t involve harming us but helping us prosper. This verse was written when the Babylonians took the Israelites into captivity, showing that God had a plan for his people beyond their pain.
Sometimes we must remind ourselves of this that God has a plan throughout our lives and sometimes we forget this.
Isaiah 40:31
New International Version
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
I think that this verse is very good and is a clear reminder that those that hope in God will find the strength to face the day and more than this.
